Welcome to our first Tee Update

With the intention of keeping you up to date, we present our first Tee Update. In each one of them, we will inform you about curiosities, events and news that happen in the different routes of the Camino de Santiago.

Open for works

After five years of restoration works, the facade of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela shows her new and enhanced appearance. Inside of the building the restoration of the Pórtico de la Gloria is already finished. Its inauguration will be the next 2nd of July.

The restoration and cleaning works on the facade of the Cathedral of Santiago began five years ago. 5 years where scaffolding has covered the natural appearance of the facade. The hard work has enabled the Cathedral to look almost in all its glory for the festivities next July: the Santiago Apostol festivities.

Pilgrims arriving in Santiago the Compostela during this summer will contemplate the new look of the Cathedral.

Another good news is that, in the coming days, the next 2nd of July we will be able to see the result of the restoration works of the Portico de la Gloria of the Cathedral of Santiago. The incredible work of art of Maestro Mateo has been under a strict restoration program during 10 years. A great event chaired by the Emerita Queen of Spain is expected and we will finally be able to admire again the carvings of the Maestro Mateo with all the original coloring.

Other parts of the Cathedral are still under restoration works. It’s unknown when the renovation will be finished but the authorities confirm that everything will be ready for the next Xacobeo, in 2021.

Walk & Dance

The Camino is culture. During this summer we can enjoy a lot of music festivals along the Camino. The most important one: O Son do Camiño this weekend.

The Camino de Santiago was declared in 1987 as the first European Cultural Route by the Council of Europe. The pilgrimage of the Camino moves thousands of pilgrims every year and remains without a doubt as a fantastic cultural promoter. Proof of this are the various cultural events that take place along the different Camino routes. Musical festivals, gastronomic festivals, theater festivals… Many cultural activities enrich the steps of pilgrims along the various routes to Santiago de Compostela.

Music Festivals in the Camino

Music Festivals in the Camino

Today we share with you some of the music festivals which will take place during the next weeks:

  • O Son do Camiño (28-30 June), takes place in the famous Monte do Gozo, near Santiago de Compostela. The first edition of Son do Camiño brings famous bands to Santiago de Compostela such as The Killers, Jamiroquai, Lenny Kravitz among others. This promising festival intents to continue in the future promoting the Camino and Galicia before the next Xacobeo in 2021.
  • Fiestas del Apóstol (15-30 July). Every year Santiago de Compostela celebrates its party dedicated to the Apostol Santiago. During two weeks music, concerts and other performances take place in the city. The fireworks during the night of the 24th in Plaza de Obradoiro stand out.
  • Jazzfermín (6-13 July) The city of Pamplona in the middle of the French Way hosts a Jazz festival for a week, together with the already famous San Fermín festivities that promise fun to all those pilgrims crossing Pamplona during that week of July.
